All General Admission (GA) and VIP areas are accessible for minors, except in the GA beer garden where ID will be required. You must be 19 years of age for the GA beer garden.
Are chairs permitted?
Absolutely NO chairs of any kind are permitted. Blankets are allowed.
Will there be a bank machine on site?
YES.
Are you allowed to bring food or drink into the concert site?
One unopened 1- liter plastic bottle of water per person is permitted. No other food or drink is allowed
Are cameras allowed?
Still cameras and video cameras are NOT allowed at the venue.
Is there a handicapped area?
Yes, there is a designated handicap area, see our site map for details.
Is there parking on site?
There is NO parking on site. However, check with Metro Transit for bus and ferry information.
What may I bring?
A one liter bottle of water and a blanket.
What if I get separated from my group?
There will be a lost and found station on site. Please anticipate this possibility and discuss.
What is not allowed?
1. No chairs of any kind (bring a blanket)
2. No bottles including glass products (with the exception of a 1-litre plastic unopened water bottle)
3. No refillable containers
4. No cans
5. No alcoholic beverages
6. No professional cameras
7. No video/audio recording equipment

10. No Frisbees

12. No knives or weapons of any kind
13. No food unless for medical reasons

Michael Jackson's Death

Wow, Michael Jackson has died. The sudden death has stunned the world. Just watching the coverage on CNN with Larry King. I grew up listening to his music on AM radio and still love some of the Jackson 5 songs like "I Want You Back" and "I'll Be There". Also remember watching The Jackson's Variety show from 1977 with my sisters on those hot summer nights in Ontario. We would be out playing baseball or at the park and would run home to make sure we caught the show.
It's too bad in later years he was more of a freak and had all that plastic surgery. Would have been nice to see if he had just concentrated on his music where his career in his later years would have taken him. Whether you liked his music or not, he clearly had talent and influenced a generation of artists.

I was thinking of bands and solo artists who could play The Commons and sell it out...U2, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney comes to mind and Michael Jackson definitely would have...now we'll never know.

Led Zeppelin Gig...Did It Really Happen?

Here's a bizzare story. It was January 20 1969 some people remember it clear as day, others say it never happened. Led Zeppelin, according to some, played a gig in Wheaton, Washington DC at The Wheaton Community Center. It was Led Zeppelins's first tour to the U.S. and according to their former tour manager, Richard Cole, he doesn't remember it. It is listed on their website as a stop on the tour..but it's not confirmed. http://ledzeppelin.com/timeline/1969
Someone who is getting to the bottom of this is Jeff Krulik who is the guy that did "Heavy Metal Parking Lot". He's filming a documentary right now called "Led Zeppelin Played Here". Maybe he'll have more answers and will be able to confirm whether Led Zeppelin played in Wheaton or not. If not .. who did the people who say they saw Led Zeppelin actually see?

My sister went to England in 1977 and brought back some 45's which included The Boomtown Rats. I was a fan right from the get go. As luck would have it they came to my hometown of Kingston, Ontario and played at Queen's University in the early 80's and I got to meet them. What a thrill.
One of the best autobiographies I've read is Bob Geldof's "Is That It". I lent the book to someone and never got it back. Usually, I'm ok with not getting things I lend back...but that book I've always thought about over the years and have regrets about not having it back in my possession.
I came across this film short starring Sir Bob Geldof called "I Am Bob". It's nice to see him have a sense of humour..a quality he doesn't get accused of too often in the press.

Billy Powell keyboardist for Lynyrd Skynryd has died. He survived the plane crash in 1977 that killed Lynyrd Skynryd members, Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and his sister Cassie Gaines as well as others.

Metallica & The Class Of 'O9

Metallica will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. They've been up for nominations a few times, but this time it stuck. Also, in the class of '09 will be guitar legend Jeff Beck, Run-DMC, Bobby Womack, and Little Anthony & The Imperials. James Hatfield's response to the honour "I think it is pretty different as in, it happens once. You know, some of the other shows and things where you're getting awards, you can continue to get those. But this, this happens once, and this is a celebration of not only us, but all the people who have helped with the vision to get there."

The Wrestler

Just got back from seeing the Q104 Halifax premiere of "The Wrestler". It's a great movie.
Mickey Rourke does an incredible job. Everyone applauded at the end of it...that doesn't happen often. Nicholas Cage was originally supposed to do this film and for various reasons it didn't happen. Thank god...'cause Mickey brought this character to life from the hard to watch wrestling matches, to some touching and heartfelt moments. He deserves that Golden Globe Award for best actor in this film. Here's his speech from the other night.

Just heard in a grocery store Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me By Science". It reminded me of the guy in the video that shouts out "She Blinded Me by.... SCIENCE. Here's the video for reference.

The guy that played the mad scientist is actually a scientist. His name is Dr. Magnus Pike. He used to do a British show that explained science and technology, but simplified it for kids..and did it in an outlandish way. Flailing his arms around, getting real close in kids faces . My sister and I used to watch the show as kids.. mainly for the unintentional comedy. It was called "Don't Just Sit There"..or "Don't Ask Me" ...not sure what channel it was on...maybe TV Ontario. Apparently, Magnus was ticked off with Thomas Dolby after appearing in the video, because people would come up to him and yell "Science"..just like the Dolby video...and it would scare the bejesus out of him. This is all I could find on video of him doing what he did best. Also check out the Martin Short, Jackie Rogers "We hardly Knew Ye" Jr look alike host in this clip.

Ron Asheton, influential guitarist and a founding member of The Stooges was found dead today. He was 60 years old. Hate to pass on bad news, very sad really.

Ever ask for an autograph? How did that work out for ya? The first autograph I ever got was when I was a kid at the Toronto airport . My sister and I asked Dave Thomas...pre the Bob & Doug McKenzie success on SCTV ...for an autograph. He was super nice. Over the years, I've been lucky enough to meet all kinds of rockers and celebs, but I don't bother with the autograph thing, just saying "Hi" and shaking hands is good enough. A Poet, Songwriter & Children's Author All Rolled Into One

What do Dr. Hook, Johny Cash, The Irish Rovers and Marianne Faithful all have in common? They all recorded songs written by Shel Silverstein. Infact, Shel won a grammy for "A Boy Named Sue" in 1970. He wrote "The Unicorn" as a poem and The Irish Rovers put music to it and had a hit . Shel was not only a prolific song writer having written "The Cover Of The Rolling Stone", and "Sylvia's Mother" to name a few by Dr. Hook...but also wrote children's books like "The Giving Tree".
Here's a neat reading by Shel of that classic book. Warning your eyes may become moist... a Mr. Hanky (not the South Park character) might be needed.

Rumours are still flying around on whether "Arrested Development" will be made into a movie.
The TV show was great. I only hope if they make the movie, they keep it true to the tv show's spirit and humour.

Also, a series I banged off over the holidays, which can be seen on HBO Canada is "Summer Heights High". It's not a show that's very PC, but neither was "All In The Family" having said that..it is funny. It's an Australian mockumentary and only 1 season was made.
One guy plays 3 characters and one of them is Mr. G, teacher and the fill in head of drama at the highschool. He reminds me of Corky from "Waiting For Guffman". Sense of humour is subjective, what's funny to some is not to others. So, maybe you to share my twisted sense of humour.

Ricky Gervais Meets....Christopher Guest & Larry David

This is brilliant and funny. Ricky Gervais from the creator of "The Office" and "Extras" meets Christopher Guest. Some of my all time favourite movies are "Spinal Tap", "Waiting For Guffman", and "Best In Show"..also liked "A Mighty Wind". Christopher Guest is responsible for all those films. He never does interviews and so this is why it's such a treat. I love the way Ricky is like a little school girl in the presence of Christopher. Ricky is such a fan and you can see he's having a ball hangin' and talking to Christopher who is so funny. Also, some great nuggets of inside stuff that happened on "Spinal Tap" and some of his other flicks.

My friend Adam and I talk about pulling an "Into The Wild" move ...getting rid of stuff and living off the grid...well maybe not to that extreme. By the way, that's a great movie if you haven't seen it. Based on a true story. Another thing to do today is to watch The World Junior Hockey Championship, which starts today. Canada is trying for a 5th consecutive Gold Medal. In 2003 Halifax was the host city. It was an exciting time. The city came alive in the dead of winter. And since were in full on hockey mode for the next several days, here's an NFB film short called "The Sweater". About a kid who loves The Montreal Canadians and the results of when his mom orders a Canadians sweater from Eatons. Won't tell you more, just watch here. The sound quality ain't that great so crank it up. Even if you're not a Canadians fan, imagine if you're the kid and think about the team you loved growing up and the warm and fuzzies will take over.

Ziggy"s Gift

"Ziggy's Gift" was originally on tv in 1983. I've always loved this Christmas special. Just the theme song alone sung by Harry Nilsson is heartwarming. The true meaning of Christmas lies within the Ziggster and his dog Fuzz. I tried for years to buy a copy..but it was hard to find. Thanks to Youtube we can all watch it and enjoy.
